Great River Loop (26 miles)

Parking and Restrooms: Cassville, Beetown

Enjoy the views from the Mississippi River blufflands as you travel the Great River Road/State Highway 133 between Cassville and County Road N. The Cassville Car Ferry (with a limited schedule) Casseville Car Ferry in Casseville, WIis a great way to take a trip back in time across this magical river and into Iowa. County Road U follows the Beetown Branch of the Grant River. Enjoy the bucolic setting and the true rolling hills of the Driftless Area. This Rural road in the driftless arealoop crosses the Grant River twice - a few miles south of Beetown and on County Road N near the village of Burton. The story goes that Beetown got its name when a group of early miners made camp under a large tree. The tree subsequently blew over in a storm, exposing great quantities of lead – and also large numbers of bees.
